About
Designed in Taiwan, assembled in Shanghai.
HSINCAM is a precision workshop building modern large format cameras from advanced materials. We currently make three models only: FM45-L, FM45-P, and 810II. We make no more than eighty cameras a year, and we have no plans to make more.
▍ The person behind it
The brand was founded by Hsin-Ya Lin (林星亞), a commercial photographer and artist based in Shanghai.
After years of working in 4×5 and 8×10, Lin reached a point where he could no longer accept the dilemma: wooden cameras that flex, and metal cameras that almost nobody is making anymore. So he stopped, drew the camera he wanted, machined a prototype, and refined it over and over until it no longer felt like a compromise.
That prototype became the FM45. HSINCAM exists because the camera he wanted didn't.
▍ How we make them
Each HSINCAM body is precision-machined from a single block of aerospace-grade aluminum, paired with Japanese carbon fiber and a German precision focusing system. We use the manufacturing process best suited to each part.Body machining, bellows, and the focusing mechanism are made by long-term workshop partners.
Design, drawings, final assembly, calibration, QC, and the signature card that ships with each camera — those stages are done by Hsin-Ya personally. Every HSINCAM passes through his hands before it ships.
▍ The name
The HSIN in HSINCAM comes from the middle character of the founder's name 林星亞 — 星, romanized as Hsin. CAM is camera.
▍ What we believe
The logo sits on the bottom of the body, not the front. A HSINCAM is a tool for making the work you want to make, not a name to display. Once you start working, we'd like you to forget the camera entirely.
We don't run promotions, don't run discounts, and don't sell through dealers.
A HSINCAM should outlive the person who owns it. As long as we are in operation, we will service it.
We are proud of what you create with HSINCAM.
